110 Fortalezas estrella en pie

110 ciudades Estrella en pie presenta un catastro a escala de aquellas ciudades amuralladas conocidas como “fortalezas estrellas” que siguen pie hasta el día de hoy, y que fueron en su momento la renovación tecnológica de la ciudad medieval. Estas ciudades con el tiempo se volvieron obsoletas: aviones, tecnologías militares y satélites las transformaron en una forma de defensa inútil. La obra presenta el interior de lo que fue, una vista aérea, una clasificación absurda, un nuevo mapa de un territorio que ya no cumple su función primaria y que parece sólo un estudio visual en torno a las formas de amenaza.

110 Fortalezas Estrellas presents a scaled typology of the ground plans of walled cities that exist to this day. Designed in Italy during the Renaissance, the “star fort” soon outstripped the medieval city, as it was better fitted to hold up under new firearms at the time and proposed a type of vigilance that was based on radial perspective. Forts were rendered obsolete with man’s dominion over airspace. The artwork present them as the interior of a past, a birds-eye view, an absurd classification, a new map of a territory that no longer fulfills its primary function and that seems only a visual study around the forms of threat.
